BLOGS. Please do not Blog about any of our Customers in any public forums. Please respect their wishes and refrain from discussing or mentioning any of our Customers by name or inference. In other words, don’t initiate or participate in any discussions about our customers even if you don’t mention their names.
Q1. What browser should I be using?
A1. Windows users should be using Firefox, Safari, or Google Chrome.
Mac users should be using either Safari or Google Chrome.
Q2. What should I do if I select Spanish from the drop down menu and click submit, but it keeps coming back to me?
A2. You can try clicking skip or submit, until it goes away, but you may have to logout and then log back in.
Q3. I would like to change my PayPal email address.
A3. This is something you can do by logging into the Typist Portal and clicking on "Edit your Profile" and changing your information there, and then Save. Make sure your information is always up to date.
Q4. If I cannot understand 4 words in a row, am I supposed to enter **** 4 times so it looks like this **** **** **** ****?
A4. NO. Just enter **** for each word or group of words you don’t understand.
Q5. What should I do if we think the call contains illegal activity?
A5. There is nothing we can do, due to confidentiality issues. Further, we usually don't even know who the caller is. However, if you ever hear/ type anything related to terrorism, you should report it to Support.
Q6. I am able to use a foot pedal?
A6. No. However if the rare case that a file can be downloaded, you may use a foot pedal. If the file is short, it would probably be more efficient to type it into our web form, as you are doing now. However, if it is a long file, you may wish to download the file and type it on your desktop. Express Scribe is one of the most popular software products available, and it is free. Express Scribe allows you to use a foot pedal. Also, since the file will be on your desktop, you should now be able to use hotkeys, or shortcuts. (I don't know much about hotkeys, so you'd have to research this on your own.)
If you wish to download an audio file, just click the Download link. When you are done typing the file, submit your transcription as you normally do. You will see download link in the "notification box" above the audio player. You will also have an additional Download link next to the speed controls on the page.
All audios MUST be deleted from your computer within one week of submitting the files and the transcripts MUST be deleted from your computers within 1 week of the job being submitted.
Before deleting the files, you should confirm that the word counts were posted to your Work History.
Q7. If ever you download a Quicktate file to be typed on your computer (rather than the text box), this audio file should not be typed in Microsoft word.
A7. Please only type them in Notepad or directly into the transcript box on the transcriber page.
Typing the files in Word and then copying and pasting into the transcript box on the transcriber page causes symbols and characters to appear in the place of letters, and we don't want symbols and characters being sent to the customers.
Q8. What if I receive an audio which is in a language other than English?
A8. Select the correct language from the drop down menu and hit submit. If the language is not listed, select "Other".
Q9. I understand that if there is no audio we should hit 'No Audio'. If there is background music/inaudible voices what should we type into the text box?
A9. Leave the text box blank and hit submit.
