(This message is going to everyone, not to any one person in particular.)
Question 1: Why am I sometimes unable to hear audio?
Answer 1: You need to download QuickTime; the download link is http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Answer 2: If that still does not solve the problem, you may need to install plug-in. You will see a bar at the top of the screen showing a message. The required plug-in are different for each computer and Quicktate will be unable to tell you which ones you will need to download. Your computer will tell you which ones are needed. Question 2: What if my QuickTime bar is black?
A. Right-click on the browser icon
B. Select properties
C. Go to the compatibility tab
D. Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
E. Make sure it says "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" in the drop down list.
F. Press "OK" at the bottom
this solution will allow you to see the normal QuickTime timeline and volume options, etc. when watching a QuickTime video, but from my experience the moment a QuickTime video loads in the browser, your vista aero scheme will change to vista basic while the browser is open. Once you close your browser, the scheme will change back to vista aero.
On Windows 7 the same effect can be achieved by using "Windows Vista" compatibility mode, plus you will not ever get aero scheme changing to vista basic.
Question 3: What if I was successfully receiving jobs to type but now I am no longer receiving jobs?
Answer: Please wait a half hour and try again- as there are always files. If we are sending notifications that there are files to type, and you are still unable to receive jobs, sign up for a new typist account with a different username and different pw than your current account has. The signup link is at https://contractors.quicktate.com/transcribers/signup . You do not need to retake the Quiz. Once you have completed the new signup, notify https://quicktate.zendesk.com and someone will activate your account as soon as possible.
Question 4: What browser should I be using?
Answer: Windows users should be using Firefox, Safari, or Google Chrome.
Mac users should be using either Safari or Google Chrome.
No one should be using Internet Explorer, as it won't work.
Question 5: What Do I do if I select Spanish from the drop down menu and click submit, but it keeps coming back to me?
Answer: You can try clicking skip or submit, until it goes away, but you may have to logout and then log back in.
Question 6: I would like to change my email address.
Answer: This is something you can do by logging into your typist account and clicking on your profile and changing your information there. Always make sure your information is up to date.
Question 7: If I cannot understand 4 words in a row, am I supposed to enter **** 4 times so it looks like this **** **** **** ****?
Answer: NO. Just enter **** for each word or group of words you don’t understand.
Question 8: What should I do if we think the call contains illegal activity?
Answer: There is nothing we can do, due to confidentiality issues. Further, we usually don't even know who the caller is. However, if you ever hear/ type anything related to terrorism, you should report it to Support.
Question 9: Why am I unable to type in the box?
Answer: Our tech team has recommended downloading http://www.oldapps.com/firefox.php?old_firefox=60 as 3.6 and newer are not compatible with QuickTime.
Question 10: I am able to use a foot pedal?
Answer: Yes, if you download the file, you may use a foot pedal. If the file is short, it would probably be more efficient to type it into our web form, as you are doing now. However, if it is a long file, you may wish to download the file and type it on your desktop. Express Scribe is one of the most popular software products available, and it is free. Express Scribe allows you to use a foot pedal. Also, since the file will be on your desktop, you should now be able to use hotkeys, or shortcuts. (I don't know much about hotkeys, so you'd have to research this on your own.)
If you wish to download an audio file, just click the Download link. When you are done typing the file, submit your transcription as you normally do. You will see download link in the "notification box" above the QuickTime player. You will also have an additional Download link next to the speed controls on the page.
All audios MUST be deleted from your computer within two (2) hours of submitting the files and the transcripts MUST be deleted from your computers within 24 hours of the job being submitted.
Before deleting the files, you should confirm that the word counts were posted to your Work History.
Question 11: All Quicktate jobs that are downloaded from iDictate or Quicktate cannot be typed in Microsoft word.
Please only type them in Notepad or directly into the transcript box on the transcriber page.
Typing the files in Word and then copying and pasting into the transcript box on the transcriber page causes symbols and characters to appear in the place of letters, and we don't want symbols and characters being sent to the customers.
Question 12: What if I receive an audio in a language not English?
Answer : Select the language from the drop down menu and hit submit, if the language is not listed select other. Also if the job keeps coming back to you, contact support via Quicktate Chat, please have the job id number ready.
Question 13: I understand that if there is no audio we should hit 'No Audio'. If there is background music/inaudible voices what should we type into the text box?
Answer: Leave the text box blank and hit submit.
Question 14: If the caller disconnects the call what should be typed into the text box or should we simply hit no audio?
Answer: Leave the text box blank and hit submit.
